Global Forum on Women in Parliaments in Rwanda

The Global Forum convened by Women in Parliaments (WIP) in Kigali, and co-organized by UN Women, was held from 1 to 3 July 2014. The meeting brought together 200 women leaders from 51 different countries who addressed issues of peace, reconciliation and security, goals for the post-2015 agenda and the impact of gender-sensitive constitutions and legislation.

UN Women seeks youth nominations for its global and regional Civil Society Advisory Groups

UN Women is issuing a global call for nominations to enlist two new members as youth representatives on its Global Civil Society Advisory Group (GCSAG). Meanwhile, the regional Civil Society Advisory Group for Latin America and the Caribbean is seeking nominations to renew six of its representatives (who have concluded their two-year terms).

Executive Director statement on the situation in Iraq

In a statement on the deteriorating situation in Iraq, UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka expressed outrage at the deliberate targeting of women and girls in the country and urged for ‘immediate and urgent steps’ to be taken to ensure the protection of the civilian population, and vulnerable groups.
