New report on community network approach to helping children
24.06.2014 – At SOS Children’s Villages the process for family strengthening is evolving towards a more supporting role, galvanising community stakeholders to respond to their own needs, and assisting their efforts at becoming self-sustaining. A new report published in May – Strong Communities for Strong Families – presents new research and analysis on the “how to” aspects of helping communities find their own power through strengthening their strong social support networks.
2014 Hermann Gmeiner Award winners announced
23.06.2014 – Contestants from India and Nepal chosen as 2014 award winners in tight election with almost 90,000 votes from all over the world. The Hermann Gmeiner Award was established in the early 1990s to recognize certain individuals who were cared for in our programmes as children, and who have distinguished themselves in terms of their social, cultural, athletic or career accomplishments.
Starting in 2014, the Hermann Gmeiner award will be presented every two years to one man and one woman. The two winners will each receive a cash prize of 5,000 euros, and will be invited to the Hermann Gmeiner Academy and SOS Children´s Villages International headquarters in Innsbruck, Austria, where they will be honoured by SOS friends and co-workers.More…
