Seven Steps to Assisting the People of South Sudan: Statement by Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
12 May 2014

IRC Statement
12 May 2014 – The IRC welcomes the announcement of the joint The National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces and the Free Syrian Army “Communiqué to Eliminate Sexual Violence”, signed on 30 April 2014 by Syrian Coalition President Ahmad al Jarba and Supreme Military Council Chief of Staff General Abdulilah al Bashir.
All parties to the conflict – the Syrian government and the opposition – must take the necessary steps to keep women and girls safe.
An important next step is that all parties allow unhindered humanitarian access within Syria, so that humanitarian agencies such as International Rescue Committee can reach women and girls with life saving services.
